about Daikaku-ji Temple
Originally, it was a private retreat (a cultural salon) for an Emperor, which was changed into a temple 1,100 years ago and remains to this day. As the temple had had deep connections to Japanese Imperial Family, including involved in the domestic politics, it presence has been very large not only in Kyoto, but in Japan.
From the Emperor’s private villa days, its tradition to envalue culture have been inherited, especially copying Sutras by Japanese ink and a flower arrangement originally founded. The pond was constructed modeling after the famous Chinese one so as to enjoy moonviewing. (still held moonviewing event in autumn annually.) We would touch the stately atmosphere of the Imperial Family from its buildings and properties(furnishings).
Hightlight
Fantastic lights illuminate the autumn leaves of the vast area around Osawa-no-ike pond which has history of 1200 years. Especially recommended that the breathtaking beauty of the Sutra Pagoda reflected on the surface of the pond. Experience the eternal time at Daikakuji Temple.
